Answers to Common Questions
You likely have a lot of questions about me and about coaching. That’s normal, and it’s great! The best way to address any and all of those questions is to book a discovery call. That is your time to ask me anything. That said, there are some frequently asked questions that I’m happy to answer as best I can up front. Again, for more robust responses, let’s talk!
I have so much to say about this. We should definitely talk about it, so book a discovery call! But the bottom line is that coaching is a support structure that is focused exclusively on your growth, development, performance, and life design. In a coach-client relationship, we are in a future-focused conversation essentially about what you want your life to look like. It is not that the past doesn’t matter; it is that the past need not determine what happens next. You are the expert, and I partner with you to uncover and dismantle limiting beliefs, gain clarity on your goals and dreams, reconnect to the highest and best version of yourself, discover new wells of potential, and take massive action to create new results and outcomes. I am not a consultant, and I am not a therapist, though I do believe effective coaching relationships “feel” therapeutic at times because you are remembering your choices and your agency in your own life. I could go on forever about this, because I love nerding out about coaching. Best to stop here; but again, let’s talk!
This is also another FAQ that I could wax poetic about forever. I’ll try for brevity instead. When I meet with prospective clients, I often share a document containing thoughts from dozens of well-trained coaches and clients about the value of coaching. Suffice it to say, there are MANY ways coaching is immeasurably valuable. You can peruse the testimonials on this site to get a sense of the value my clients have gotten from our work. But I am also a coaching client. I’ve been a coachee since I started my transformational journey in 2017, and in my view it is my ethical obligation to continue to be a coaching client for as long as I am a coach in the world. With all of this said, here is some of what I have gotten and created from working with my coach: a completely new and profitable business; a trusted and judgment-free relationship and a space where I can say anything and always be related to as my highest and best self; full and unapologetic self-expression; greater degrees of self-love than I ever thought possible; healthier and more fulfilling relationships; a roster of clients who inspire and delight and in whom I am deeply invested; sacred space to dream and imagine and plan that is all mine; someone to challenge me from a place of love and respect; responsibility and tremendous empowerment; more control and agency; greater capacity to be with all of life’s ups and downs, while remaining grounded in who I am…I could go on and on. The value far exceeds the investment of time and money. Period. Coaching is truly one of the best gifts you can give yourself.
My engagements are customized to meet the needs of each client. However, generally speaking, I work with people for at least six months at a cadence of two or three times per month. I am essentially on retainer for this time and will happily support you in between sessions as needed.
A variety of topics! I typically work with high-performing seasoned professionals in demanding environments. My clients tend to be ambitious types with full lives. I have worked with people around a range of leadership areas including, but not limited to, effective communication, team culture-building and management, self-advocacy, confidence, navigating conflict, relationship-building, creating healthier work-life integration, career pivots, self-expression and leadership voice, prioritization and productivity, legacy and impact. My agenda is your agenda, and so we work on what YOU want to work on, with my support to challenge and refine your goals, within a trusted partnership that we will create together.
Book a discovery call! I will share some general information about coaching and the process. And you will get to share with me what you want to get out of the engagement, as well as the time to ask me any questions or raise any concerns. The decision to work together is a sacred decision, and I believe we both have agency in it. I will be honest about what I see in terms of fit and will happily offer referrals if I’m not the right person for you. Deciding to engage in coaching and choosing a coach are both incredibly important decisions. I will do my best to support you to make empowered choices that are in your best interests.
Coaching fees are all over the map, for a variety of reasons. I am a highly experienced coach. I have my PCC and am working towards my MCC. (These are levels of certification through the International Coaching Federation, which is currently the primary regulatory body in the coaching industry). I went through rigorous training, have coached hundreds of clients, and have thousands of hours of coaching under my belt. This all matters to me because lately it seems like everyone is a coach. I care very much about the integrity and professionalism of coaching, which is why I am certified and continue to invest in my own coaching and professional development. So I will not be the cheapest coach you will find. Nor will I be the most expensive. The truth is that I work on a scale, depending on a variety of factors. I don’t publicize my scale or my standard fees because this work is not transactional; it is relational. This may sound unusual, but I do not mean to be anything other than fully transparent. I don’t share my pricing because coaching is not- in my opinion- a typical commodity. Because coaching exists within a foundation of a sacred, connected, trusted container, the pricing exists in this realm too. We will work together on pricing, and, quite frankly, the money conversation is often the first big breakthrough for clients who choose to work with me. I do not mean to be glib about this. Coaching is an investment. I simply am asking that money not be a stop, and so my preference is to be in relationship and partnership and to really talk about it. Book a discovery call!
Choosing a coach is a very important decision. If you are empowering the coaching relationship, your coach will become a key person in your life. This is a person who will come to know you well and whose only job is to support you around your goals. You should be discerning about this choice. Most great coaches will offer complimentary consultations, so at a bare minimum, meet with at least 2 or 3 people. Ask questions about their credentials, their process, the structure, their experience. Read or ask for testimonials. One of the best questions I got from a prospective client was something like: “How can I show up as a coaching client to get the most out of our relationship?” I was so thrilled to get and respond to this question. Coaching is a PARTNERSHIP. So ask the questions and do the research. Also, assess the chemistry. Are you comfortable enough with this person to build trust and to be able to share openly and honestly? But also, do you trust this person to call you out on your B.S. as needed, with love and respect, so that you can see patterns of self-sabotage and make different choices? These are just some of the considerations, and I urge you to trust your intuition.
